Three-wheelers connect people and goods across Tigray. For drivers who earn with their vehicles, fuel costs and access affect each working day.
An electric option has to work beyond the showroom: vehicles need local assembly and service, somewhere to charge, and a way for operators to afford them.
The Innovation
Electric three-wheelers, assembled locally
S&Y Mobility is working to assemble electric three-wheelers locally in Ethiopia. Its wider project includes developing charging infrastructure and financing options with local partners.
The project brings the vehicle, its energy supply and access to finance into one plan. Before publishing operational milestones, confirm which assembly, charging and financing elements are already running.

Electrical manufacturing roots in Mekelle
S&Y grew out of an electrical-products business in Mekelle. Its team makes power accessories, including multi-plugs that use eucalyptus wood and recycled copper. This manufacturing background is the starting point for its move into electric mobility.
